PSHCE at Warfield
PSHCE is an integral part of teaching within Warfield CE School. We value and promote children’s personal, social and economic development as well as their health and well being. Within our teaching we give children the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy, independent lives and to become informed and kind citizens.
We follow the KAPOW Scheme which is adapted for our children to ensure there is clear progression throughout the school. Teachers plan and teach, based on the needs and interests of their children in their class and adapt lessons in order to both support and challenge learning and understanding.
Children are encouraged to be individuals and develop good relationships with their peers and staff to take responsibility for their own behaviour. All staff provide good role models for children and work hard to promote a safe and happy environment.
How we deliver our curriculum
At Warfield School, we follow a scheme from KAPOW with purposefully designed progressive PSHCE lessons. PSHCE is taught under five headings. These are the same for each year group for Years 1 to 6.: Families & Relationships, Safety & the Changing Body, Health & Well being, Citizenship and Economic Wellbeing.

The Early Years Curriculum covers PSHCE through the strand of Personal Social and Emotional Development (PSED). PSED is not taught in isolation rather it is an ongoing strand throughout a child's time within Early Years.
A key aspect of delivering good quality PSHCE involves quality circle time. Quality Circle Time is a democratic approach used by teachers to manage issues that effect the whole class. it ahs been proved to promote better relationships and also helps with positive behaviour management.
How we support everyone to learn
The learning of PSHCE is taught every week and is a core subject. PSHCE incorporates every learner, regardless of their ability and needs. In fact the learning of PSHCE is so varied and can often highlight preconceived ideas which can .be openly discussed in a safe environment.
Teachers plan using KAPOW and will often enhance the learning opportunities through visuals and key questions to promote extended thinking to ensure it is all inclusive.
Our teaching of PSHCE involves and offers active participation as well as the opportunity to record in written form. This could be either in a child's individual PSHCE book in pictures/ photos or written form in a class floor book.
