Creative Arts

“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have."

(Maya Angelou)

 Creative Arts at Warfield

At Warfield, we believe the Creative Arts – encompassing Music, Art and Design Technology – are vital to nurturing imagination, self-expression and a deep appreciation of the world. Our curriculum offers rich, high-quality learning experiences that inspire children to explore, create and communicate through a range of artistic disciplines. The Creative Arts at Warfield encourage pupils to express their ideas and emotions through a variety of medias. They are given opportunities to experiment with materials, develop techniques, and appreciate the work of artists, promoting critical thinking and personal reflection. Design and Technology at Warfield challenges children to think practically and creatively, as they design, make and evaluate purposeful products. Through a progressive skills framework, pupils gain hands-on experience and learn to solve real-world problems, considering the needs and values of others. Across all three subjects, we provide children with a wide range of experiences that develop cultural understanding, confidence and resilience, empowering every child to find their voice and flourish through the arts.

How we deliver our curriculum

Children at Warfield learn through carefully thought-out topics that frame their learning throughout the year. Their learning in the Creative Arts is directly linked to these topics, ensuring all children are given meaningful opportunities to create with purpose and bring their learning to life. In Music, specialist teachers from Berkshire Maestros deliver engaging lessons that celebrate cultural diversity and ensure that children are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to progress. We use Out of the Ark as a way to bring collaborative performance and the joy of singing into daily life and worship at Warfield.

How we support everyone to learn

At Warfield, we are committed to ensuring that the Creative Arts are accessible and inclusive for all children, regardless of ability or background. We recognise and celebrate the diverse needs of our learners by providing a range of strategies, adaptations and resources to support full participation. In Music, this includes using symbols, large print, gesture, and expressive voice, as well as a strong focus on aural memory. Children with additional needs are supported with accessible instruments, and those with a particular passion or talent are encouraged to develop further through opportunities with Maestros and visiting music professionals. In Art and DT, we use a wide variety of resources to enable access, such as specialist tools, visual scaffolds and sloped desks. Our approach is underpinned by high-quality planning and inclusive teaching that allows every child to take pride in their achievements. Through thoughtful adaptations and a focus on equity, we aim to ensure every child experiences success, enjoyment, and a sense of belonging in the Creative Arts.
