Religious Education

"Compassion is the key in Islam and Buddhism and Judaism and Christianity. They are profoundly similar."

Karen Armstrong (English Author)

Religious Education at Warfield

Through our R.E curriculum, it is our aim that children skillfully and inquisitively develop their understanding of religions and worldviews. We encourage them to ask questions and enquire about the beliefs, values and traditions that belong to different communities and cultures around the world.

By promoting religious literacy, our curriculum enables children to use their knowledge and understanding, both from within school and the wider community, to engage in informed and balanced conversations about religions, beliefs and moral issues.

 How we deliver our curriculum

We use the Diocese of Oxford’s scheme of learning ‘Living Faith’ and ‘Understanding Christianity’ scheme, alongside our own purposeful and relevant RE lessons to meet the needs and engagement of the children.

This enables a progression in knowledge and skills throughout the school. Lessons are designed to meet these aims, whilst engaging the class through various means such as stories, debates and visuals. The purpose of religious education does not include any attempt to alter a child’s beliefs.

How we support everyone to learn

We aim to make sure that all children are able to participate in RE lessons. Teachers have the flexibility to design their lessons and tasks to meet the needs and be considerate of the backgrounds and personal circumstances of the children in our classes. Suitable learning challenges are given to enable all children to engage and respond in what is being taught. To over come barriers to learning, children have a variety of provision such as the use of visuals, physical artefacts and writing tools to support purposeful and independent learning.
